The Many Cleaning Uses of Fresh Lemons

The following are two simple ways to clean with lemon that are easy and effective.

  1.  Cleaning the cutting board.
If you think the nasty red stains on a cutting board are permanent, you are wrong.  First sprinkle board with kosher salt or baking soda.  Let that sit for 5 minutes.  Then with a halved lemon, firmly run the lemon across the whole board.  Rinse with warm water.
  2. Cleaning your microwave of splattered food.
Those same tomatoes that stain the cutting board can splatter in the micorwave.  Along with any other liquid or food.  Take a large microwave safe bowl that can hold 3-4 cups of water.  But you only need 1-2 cups of water.  Cut up 1 – 2 lemons into quarter pieces and place in the bowl.  Add 2-3 tablespoons of distilled vinegar.  Then microwave on High for several minutes, until you see water boiling and/or steam on the microwave door.   Take a damp sponge and wipe the microwave walls.
